La Antártida es el continente más austral y menos poblado de la Tierra, situado casi por completo al sur del círculo antártico y rodeado por el océano Austral. Alberga el Polo Sur geográfico y está cubierto en gran parte por un manto de hielo. Es el continente más frío, seco y ventoso, y tiene la mayor altitud media. Se rige por el Sistema del Tratado Antártico y alberga investigación, turismo y pesca, mientras que están prohibidas las actividades militares y la minería.
