The neotropical otter, also called the neotropical river otter (Lontra longicaudis), is a near-threatened otter species. It occurs in freshwater systems from Mexico and Central America through mainland South America and on Trinidad. It inhabits varied riverine and riparian environments, often favoring clear, fast-flowing rivers and streams. Relatively solitary, it feeds mostly on fish and crustaceans.
