Frequently asked questions
What is Kosmora?
An encyclopedic collectible card game. Every card is a real English Wikipedia article — a person, a place, a species, an artwork, an idea. You open packs, build families of related subjects, earn Kosmo passively, choose talents and trade with other players.
Is it really free?
Free to play. No paid packs. No paid advantages. There is no real-money payment anywhere in the game. Kosmo is the only currency and it is earned by playing. Kosmo and cards have no monetary value.
How do packs work? What are the odds?
Every pack contains six distinct subjects. New accounts receive 20 free packs once. After that, a pack costs 100 Kosmo; some talents lower the price, never below 80 Kosmo. The server draws the cards; replaying the animation never changes them.
Base odds for each card of a pack:
| Rarity | Per card | At least one in a pack of six |
|---|---|---|
| Common | 60% | 99.6% |
| Uncommon | 25% | 82.2% |
| Rare | 10% | 46.9% |
| Epic | 4% | 21.7% |
| Legendary | 0.9% | 5.3% |
| Mythic | 0.1% | 0.6% |
Per-card odds are not the chance of getting at least one in a pack. With six cards, the chance of at least one Mythic is 0.60%, at least one Legendary or better 5.9%, at least one Epic or better 26.5%, and at least one Rare or better 62.3% (computed as 1 − (1 − p)6). Rarity talents can raise some weights within caps; Mythic never exceeds 1% per card.
What decides a card's rarity?
Real popularity: the median number of daily views of the Wikipedia article over 90 days. Rarity is fixed when a card is first issued. Each rarity has its own symbol so you never need to rely on colour:
- Common
Fewer than 25 median daily Wikipedia views - Uncommon
25 to 99 median daily views - Rare
100 to 499 median daily views - Epic
500 to 2,499 median daily views - Legendary
2,500 to 9,999 median daily views - Mythic
10,000 or more median daily views
Black Market cards are Mythic and additionally marked Black Market Exclusive — 1 of 1.
How do I earn Kosmo?
Passively. Each distinct subject you hold adds productive power (a bit more for rarer cards). Families add a bonus at milestones. Your hourly income grows with the square root of that total power, so every new subject helps, with gently diminishing returns. Some talents add up to +50% on top.
Kosmo are credited automatically — no clicking to collect — for up to 7 days after your last visit (talents extend this up to 30 days). The balance counter in the app is a live estimate; the server is authoritative.
With a fresh collection of about 120 subjects, income is roughly 12–15 Kosmo per hour, so your first self-funded pack takes several hours. That pace is intentional.
Families and milestones
Subjects belong to official families (up to three economic families per subject). A family counts your distinct available subjects, shown like “12 collected — next milestone: 25”. Milestones are at 2, 5, 10, 25, 50, 100, 250, 500, 1,000 and beyond; only the highest reached applies. Families are open-ended, so we never show a completion percentage.
Albums are your personal showcases: they are free to arrange and share, but they do not create income.
Duplicates and recycling
A duplicate never adds income — only one copy of each subject counts. You can keep it, sell it at auction, or recycle surplus copies for a small amount of Kosmo: from 0.25 (Common) to 2 (Mythic) per copy, at most 3 Kosmo with talents.
Recycling never touches your last available copy of a subject, protected copies, copies in an auction or Black Market exclusives. Large batches are previewed before you confirm, and you get a receipt.
Talents
120 permanent talents in six districts, bought with Kosmo: 120 (entry), 1,500 (middle), 12,000 (terminal) and 25,000 (hybrid). Each branch unlocks in order A → B → C; hybrids need two specific terminal talents. There are no points to allocate — you choose the order, and a patient player can eventually own them all. Every talent shows its real effect before you buy it. The map has a full list view.
Player auctions
The market unlocks when your account is at least 7 days old, has been active on 3 different days and has produced 500 Kosmo. Your progress is shown on the Market page.
- Durations: 6, 12, 24 or 48 hours. Starting price at least 1 Kosmo.
- Listing fee: min(20, 1 + 0.5% of the starting price) Kosmo, never below 0.25; not refunded. Talents can reduce it.
- Sale commission: 8% of the final price (talents reduce it, never below 5%). No commission if nothing sells.
- Minimum next bid: the best bid plus max(1 Kosmo, 5%). Your whole bid is reserved until you are outbid.
- Anti-sniping: a bid in the last 2 minutes extends the auction to 2 minutes after that bid.
- “Settling” means the auction has ended and the transfer is being finalised; no more bids are accepted.
The Black Market
Each UTC day, a mysterious vendor offers one Mythic subject that can never appear in packs, as a single copy for the entire world. It costs at least 100,000 Kosmo. The first buyer gets the only copy ever made; everyone else keeps their Kosmo. It can later be resold in auctions — the same copy, never a new one.
Account and security
You sign in with a one-time email link (valid 15 minutes). The link opens a confirmation page; nothing happens until you press Sign in to Kosmora. In Settings you can see and revoke your sessions, download all your data and request account deletion (executed after 7 days, cancellable).
Installing the app
Kosmora can be installed on your home screen like an app. See Settings → Install app for instructions adapted to your browser.
What happens offline?
Without a connection you can see a cautious snapshot of your last known data. Buying, opening, bidding, recycling and talent purchases need the server and are never queued offline. Your production continues on the server while you are away.
Accessibility
Kosmora works with a keyboard and screen readers. In Settings you can reduce motion (or follow your system preference), disable haptics and keep sound off. The talent tree has a complete list view as an alternative to the map. Rarities use shapes and names, not only colours.
