The Fiat G.55 Centauro was an Italian single-engine, single-seat monoplane fighter designed and produced by Fiat Aviazione. It first flew on 30 April 1942 and entered quantity production and squadron service the following year. Powered by a license-built Daimler-Benz DB 605 inline engine, it served with Italian air forces during the latter half of the Second World War. Postwar examples were exported to Argentina and Egypt, and a G.59 trainer version used Rolls-Royce Merlin engines.
