Siegfried Freytag (1919 to 2003) was a German Luftwaffe fighter pilot and wing commander during World War II. Credited with 102 aerial victories, he claimed 49 on the Eastern Front and became the most successful German pilot over Malta. He received the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross in 1942. Later he flew the Messerschmitt Me 262 until Germany's surrender. After the war, he served in the French Foreign Legion.
