Ovalentaria is a subseries-level clade of ray-finned fishes within Percomorpha. It includes fish families treated as incertae sedis in the fifth edition of Fishes of the World, along with Mugiliformes, Cichliformes, and Blenniiformes. W. L. Smith and T. J. Near named the group in 2012 from a molecular phylogeny. Its members were suggested to share demersal eggs attached to a substrate.
