Bukharan Jews, also called Bukharian Jews, are a Mizrahi Jewish subgroup of Central Asia. They historically lived predominantly in areas now within Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Kazakhstan. Their name comes from the Emirate of Bukhara, which once had a sizable Jewish population. They are among Central Asia's oldest ethnoreligious groups and form a branch of Persian-speaking Jewry. Since the Soviet Union dissolved, most have emigrated abroad.
