Ribokinase (EC 2.7.1.15) is an enzyme that converts the pentose sugar D-ribose into ribose 5-phosphate. It transfers a phosphate group from adenosine triphosphate (ATP), producing adenosine diphosphate (ADP). Ribokinase belongs to the phosphofructokinase B (PfkB) family of sugar kinases, whose members have conserved sequence motifs and generally depend on pentavalent ions for activity.
