Alhamdulillah is an Arabic phrase meaning “praise be to God”. It is also translated as “thank God”, “praise be to Allah”, or “thanks be to the Lord”, and is called Tahmid. Muslims frequently use it because of its centrality in the Quran and Hadith. A longer form appears as the first verse of Surah Al-Fatiha, the opening chapter of the Quran. The phrase is also used by some non-Muslim Arabic speakers.
