Alphaherpesvirinae is a subfamily of viruses in the family Orthoherpesviridae. It is primarily distinguished by reproducing more quickly than other Orthoherpesviridae subfamilies, and mammals are its natural hosts. The subfamily contains five genera. Its associated diseases include chickenpox, shingles, Marek's disease, Aujeszky's disease in pigs, bovine infectious rhinotracheitis and pustular vulvovaginitis.
