Ingenuity, nicknamed Ginny, was an autonomous helicopter that operated on Mars from 2021 to 2024 in NASA's Mars 2020 mission. Delivered beneath the Perseverance rover, it made the first powered and controlled extraterrestrial flight on 19 April 2021. Originally planned for five flights, it completed 72. Damage to its rotor blades during its final landing permanently grounded it, and NASA ended the mission in January 2024.
