Joan of Arc was a French military leader who said she acted under divine guidance during the Hundred Years' War. In 1429, she joined a relief army at Orléans, where the English abandoned their siege nine days after her arrival. She was present for Charles VII's coronation at Reims. Captured in 1430, she was tried for heresy and burned at the stake in 1431. Her conviction was overturned in 1456, and she was canonized in 1920.
