The Vorderrhein, also called the Anterior Rhine, is one of the two initial tributaries of the Rhine, alongside the Hinterrhein. It is the longer tributary, though its discharge is lower where the two meet, beginning the Alpine Rhine section. The river and nearly all its tributaries lie in the Swiss canton of Grisons. Disentis and Ilanz are its largest communities along the river.
