The mandrill (Mandrillus sphinx) is a large Old World monkey native to west central Africa. It has red and blue skin on its face and posterior, and males are larger, have longer canine teeth and show brighter coloring than females. Mandrills mainly inhabit tropical rainforests, live in large groups called hordes, and eat fruit, seeds, plants, fungi and animals. The species is listed as vulnerable, threatened mainly by habitat destruction and hunting for bushmeat.
