The brook trout (Salvelinus fontinalis) is a freshwater fish in the char genus Salvelinus and salmon family Salmonidae, native to eastern North America. It has olive-green colouring, yellow and blue-rimmed red spots, orange fins with white and black edges, and dorsal vermiculation. Two ecological forms are recognized, coaster trout in Lake Superior and anadromous salters in northern lakes and coastal rivers. Introduced populations have spread beyond the native range and can affect native aquatic species.
