Mark Twain was the pen name of Samuel Langhorne Clemens, an American writer, humorist, and essayist. Raised in Hannibal, Missouri, he drew on the region for The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. His work included fiction, nonfiction, satire, and public speaking. After working as a printer, journalist, and Mississippi riverboat pilot, he gained international attention in 1865 with “The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County.”
