Yakub is a figure in the mythology of the Nation of Islam and related groups. In Nation of Islam doctrine, he is described as a black Meccan scientist who created the white race through selective breeding, called “grafting,” on Patmos. The story originated in writings by Wallace Fard Muhammad and has been interpreted by scholars in several ways, including as a black theodicy and a reversal of racist ideas about Black inferiority. Yakub is not part of mainstream Islam.
