Hecate is a goddess in ancient Greek religion and mythology, associated with crossroads, night, light, magic, witchcraft and the Moon. She was commonly represented with torches, a key or snakes, or with dogs, and later often appeared in three-formed or triple-bodied depictions. Her cult had early evidence at Selinunte in Sicily, and she was worshipped in Athens as a protector of the household.
