The black-tailed jackrabbit, also called the American desert hare, is a common hare found in the western United States and Mexico. It lives in mixed shrub-grassland terrain from sea level to 10,000 feet. One of the largest North American hares, it eats shrubs, small trees, grasses and forbs.
