The Texas rat snake, Pantherophis obsoletus lindheimeri, is a nonvenomous colubrid and a subspecies of the western rat snake. It occurs in the United States, primarily in Texas, with its range also extending into Louisiana, Arkansas and Oklahoma. It intergrades with other subspecies of Elaphe obsoleta, making exact range boundaries impossible to distinguish. Its epithet honors German-American naturalist Ferdinand Jacob Lindheimer.
