Nanook of the North is a 1922 American silent film combining documentary and docudrama/docufiction elements. Written, directed, photographed, edited, and produced by Robert J. Flaherty, it follows an Inuk man named Nanook and his family in the Canadian Arctic. It was the first feature-length documentary to achieve commercial success. In 1989, it was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry.
