The Magnavox Odyssey was the first commercial home video game console. Designed by a team led by Ralph H. Baer and released by Magnavox in the United States in September 1972, it connected to a television and used wired controllers. Its monochrome display showed dots and a line, while players used plastic screen overlays and supplied board-game materials for different games. It was discontinued in 1975.
