In Greek mythology, Scylla is a legendary man-eating monster who lives beside a narrow channel opposite the sea-swallowing monster Charybdis. First attested in Homer’s Odyssey, she is encountered by Odysseus and his crew. Later myths describe her as a beautiful nymph transformed into a monster. Virgil associates her strait with the Strait of Messina, while the Suda describes a womanlike upper form, dog heads, and a serpent body.
