Its capital and largest city is Zagreb, while other major urban centres include Split, Rijeka, and Osijek. The country comprises twenty counties and has over 1,000 islands and islets in its archipelago. Modern Croatia is a representative democracy and a member of organizations including the European Union, United Nations, WTO, and NATO.
