Mount Rushmore National Memorial is a national memorial in the Black Hills of South Dakota, United States. Its granite sculpture depicts the heads of Presidents George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln. Sculptor Gutzon Borglum oversaw work from 1927 to 1941. The site stands on land taken from the Sioux Nation in the 1870s; the Sioux continue to seek its return following a Supreme Court compensation ruling.
