The honey badger, also called the ratel, is a mammal found across Africa, Southwest Asia, and the Indian subcontinent. It is the only living member of the Mellivorinae subfamily within the Mustelidae. This solitary, mainly carnivorous animal has loose skin and a thick-set body. It may be active at any time of day, maintains large home ranges, and is listed as least concern on the IUCN Red List.
