The Netherlands, informally known as Holland, is a country in Northwestern Europe with overseas territories in the Caribbean. It is the largest constituent country of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and comprises twelve provinces and three overseas special municipalities. A parliamentary constitutional monarchy since 1848, it has Dutch as its official language and The Hague as the location of its principal national political institutions. Much of its low, flat terrain includes reclaimed land.
