The Battle of Crucifix Hill was fought on 8 October 1944 at Crucifix Hill, also called Haarberg or Hill 239, near the German village of Haaren. It formed part of the U.S. 1st Division's campaign to seize Aachen during the Drive to the Siegfried Line. U.S. forces sought control of the bunker- and pillbox-defended hill to help encircle Aachen. German units of the 246. Volksgrenadierdivision held the position.
