Singapore, officially the Republic of Singapore, is an island country in Southeast Asia comprising a main island, more than 60 satellite islands and islets, and one outlying islet. Independent since 1965, it is a parliamentary republic with four official languages: English, Malay, Mandarin and Tamil. Singapore is a major aviation, financial and maritime shipping hub, and is organised into five regions, 55 planning areas and hundreds of subzones.
