Dowagiac is a city in Cass County, Michigan, United States. Its population was 5,721 at the 2020 census, and it is part of the South Bend-Mishawaka metropolitan area. The city lies where Wayne, LaGrange, Pokagon and Silver Creek townships meet. Its name derives from the Potawatomi word dewje'og, meaning "fishing [near home] water". Dowagiac is the headquarters of the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians and is within the reservation.
