Delta cells, also called δ-cells or D cells, are somatostatin-producing enteroendocrine cells found in the stomach, intestine and pancreatic islets. They make up about 5% of islet cells. Their location differs between rodents and humans, and signals including Urocortin III, ghrelin and VIP can affect somatostatin secretion. In the stomach, somatostatin reduces acid secretion directly and by limiting release of hormones including gastrin, secretin and histamine.
