Shiva, also called Mahadeva and Shankara, is one of the principal deities of Hinduism and the Supreme Being in Shaivism. He is associated with creation, protection and transformation of the universe, and is known as the Destroyer in the Trimurti. Shiva is depicted in benevolent and fearsome aspects, and is regarded as the patron god of yoga, meditation and the arts. He is widely revered across South and Southeast Asia.
