Medusa is a figure in Greek mythology, also called Gorgo or the Gorgon. She was one of three Gorgons, alongside Euryale and Stheno, and was the only mortal sister. Usually described with living snakes instead of hair, she turned those who looked at her to stone. The hero Perseus beheaded her and used her still-powerful head as a weapon before giving it to Athena for her shield.
