Euclid was an ancient Greek mathematician active as a geometer and logician around 300 BC. He is chiefly known for the Elements, a treatise that set out foundations of geometry and influenced the field until the early 19th century. He also wrote on perspective, conic sections, spherical geometry, number theory and mathematical rigour. Very little is known about his life, though he is generally accepted to have spent his career in Alexandria.
