Johann Sebastian Bach was a German composer and musician of the late Baroque period. His works include the Brandenburg Concertos, the Cello Suites, the Goldberg Variations, The Well-Tempered Clavier, the St. Matthew Passion and the Mass in B minor. He served as Thomaskantor in Leipzig from 1723 and composed church cantatas, keyboard music, chamber music and orchestral works. He was noted for his mastery of counterpoint.
