Heracles is a Greek mythological demigod, considered the son of Zeus and Alcmene and the foster son of Amphitryon. Regarded as both hero and god, he was worshipped as a patron of young men and gymnasia. His myths include twelve labours ordered by Eurystheus, including the capture of Cerberus. After his death on Mount Oeta, tradition says he ascended to Olympus and married Hebe.
