  • Chemical Elements

Hydrogen is the lightest and most abundant chemical element in the universe. Under standard conditions it is a colorless, odorless, non-toxic, highly combustible gas of diatomic H2 molecules. It is a main component of stars and occurs on Earth in hydrogen gas, water, and organic compounds. Hydrogen forms covalent bonds with most nonmetals and is used industrially in fossil fuel processing and ammonia production.
