Austria held a snap legislative election on 15 October 2017 to elect the 26th National Council. It followed the dissolution of the coalition government between the Social Democratic Party of Austria and the Austrian People's Party. The ÖVP became the largest party, winning 31.5% of the vote and 62 of 183 seats. Coalition talks between ÖVP leader Sebastian Kurz and Freedom Party leader Heinz-Christian Strache led to the first Kurz government in December.
