The Crystal Palace

The Crystal Palace was a cast iron and plate glass structure built in Hyde Park, London, for the Great Exhibition of 1851. Designed by Joseph Paxton, it housed more than 14,000 exhibitors. After the exhibition, it was relocated and rebuilt at Penge Peak beside Sydenham Hill in South London. It stood there from June 1854 until it was destroyed by fire in November 1936. The nearby area was later named Crystal Palace.
