Tauchnitz publishers

Tauchnitz was a family of German printers and publishers. It published English-language literature for distribution on the European continent outside Great Britain, including initial serial publications of novels by Charles Dickens. Although international copyright protection did not exist in the 19th century, Tauchnitz paid authors for published works and limited sales of English-language books to continental Europe, where British authors had separate publishing arrangements.
