The Battle of Punished Woman's Fork, also called Battle Canyon, was fought on 27 September 1878 in Kansas. It was the last battle between Native Americans and the United States Army in the state. During the Northern Cheyenne Exodus, 353 Cheyenne, including women and children, had fled an Oklahoma reservation to return to the northern Great Plains. They fought U.S. Army soldiers at Punished Woman's Fork, killed the army commander, and continued northward afterward.
