XXXX, pronounced four-ex, is an Australian beer brand brewed in Milton, Brisbane, by Castlemaine Perkins, a division of the Japanese company Kirin. It is widely popular in Queensland and is commonly available on tap in pubs and bars there. Introduced by Castlemaine in 1924, its name reflects a tradition of using Xs to indicate ale strength and follows the earlier XXX Sparkling Ale, introduced in 1878.
