Johannes Andreas Quenstedt was a German Lutheran dogmatician in the Lutheran scholastic tradition. Born in Quedlinburg, he studied at the universities of Helmstedt and Wittenberg, then held academic posts at Wittenberg, becoming its ordinary professor of theology from 1660 until his death. His Theologia didactico-polemica sive systema theologicum, published in 1685, presented Lutheran orthodoxy. He was also noted for a mild, irenic spirit and advised gentleness in resisting heretics.
