Amelia Mary Earhart was an American aviator, writer, journalist and women's rights activist. She was the first female passenger to cross the Atlantic by airplane in 1928 and the first woman to complete a nonstop solo transatlantic flight in 1932. Earhart promoted commercial air travel and helped found the Ninety-Nines for female pilots. She disappeared over the Pacific Ocean in 1937 while attempting to circumnavigate the world.
