Vincent van Gogh was a Dutch Post-Impressionist painter. Over just more than a decade, he created about 2,100 artworks, including around 860 oil paintings. His work included landscapes, still lifes, portraits and self-portraits, and used bold colour and expressive brushwork. He developed his mature style in Arles in 1888. Supported financially by his brother Theo, Van Gogh experienced mental illness and poverty, and died from injuries after shooting himself in 1890.
