Pillars of Creation is a Hubble Space Telescope photograph, taken on April 1, 1995, showing elephant trunks of interstellar gas and dust in the Eagle Nebula, in the Serpens constellation. The structures are forming new stars while being eroded by light from nearby recently formed stars. The image was made by astronomers Jeff Hester and Paul Scowen of Arizona State University. The region was later imaged by Herschel, Hubble and the James Webb Space Telescope.
