George Carlin was an American comedian, satirist, social critic, actor and author. His stand-up combined dark comedy with commentary on politics, language, psychology and religion. A frequent performer and guest host on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson, he also hosted the first episode of Saturday Night Live. He released 14 HBO specials, won five Grammy Awards for Best Comedy Album, and appeared in films and television roles.
