Independence Day of Mexico, also called Día de la Independencia de México, is a public holiday celebrated on 16 September. It marks the beginning of the Mexican War of Independence in 1810, when Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla called for rebellion against the Spanish Empire. Major observances, including the Cry of Dolores, take place on the evening of 15 September.
