Seattle is the most populous city in Washington and the Pacific Northwest, and the county seat of King County. It lies on an isthmus between Puget Sound and Lake Washington, about 100 miles south of the Canadian border. The area was inhabited by Native Americans for at least 4,000 years before permanent European settlement. Seattle developed through logging, trade, shipbuilding, aircraft manufacturing, and later technology industries.
