Stan Lee, born Stanley Martin Lieber, was an American comic book writer, editor, publisher, and producer. He rose through Timely Comics, later Marvel Comics, and served as Marvel's primary creative leader for two decades. Working with collaborators including Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko, he co-created characters such as Spider-Man, the X-Men, Iron Man, and the Fantastic Four. After retiring from Marvel in the 1990s, he remained a public figurehead and made cameo appearances in Marvel-based films and television.
